How To Minimize Oil & Large Pores For Flawless Skin

Image via freedigitalphotos.net

It seems as if overnight my pores became the size of the Grand Canyon (ugh!) and the oiliness around my T-zone has just become annoying.

The bad news is that nothing will completely eliminate oiliness or large pores but the good news is that there are several steps that you can implement into your skincare regime that will help to reduce large pores and oil.

First, you will need a skincare routine that will decongest your skin. Its important that this system have an effective cleanser, moisturizer, and exfoliant. I personally use Philosophy’s 4 pc. skincare system for congested skin. I love it because it has a cleanser, facial serum, eye & lip cream, and a moisturizer that is specifically designed for congested skin and reducing oil and large pores. The benefits of this 4 pc. system doesn’t stop there though, it also helps to reduce blemishes and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. WOW!! All these benefits in one 4 pc. skincare system for under $80, one facial serum could easily cost you $80 or more.

Once you have a basic skincare regime consisting of at least a cleanser and moisturizer you will need to exfoliate. In home oxygen peels rapidly exfoliate the skin while smoothing and hydrating it.  Philosophy’s Oxygen Peel relieves congested and blocked pores while improving overall skin texture. This peel can be used daily, weekly, or monthly as needed.

After I cleanse and treat my face with my skincare routine I like to apply a primer or skin perfector before applying foundation. This helps to seal in your moisturizer and treatments while concealing fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, and minimizes oil for a flawless appearance. I like the present from Philosophy because not only is it great for preping skin for make-up but when used a night after cleansing it seals in your moisturizer and treatment products to provide maximum benefits of those treatments.

Finally, the last product that I absolutely swear by is a retinol treatment. Retinol creams help to minimize the appearance of large pores, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and clear congested pores. Retinol also helps in fading skin discolorations, another problem that plaques myself. Many retinol treatments can cause irritation but Philosophy’s help me retinol treatment is a patented time-release delivery system that is gradually released into the skin for less irritation. This is my night time facial cream and has greatly helped in unclogging my pores, reducing my fine lines and wrinkles, and reducing the appearance of dark spots on my face.

As I’ve stated earlier, nothing will completely eliminate oil and large pores but these steps can greatly help to minimize the appearance of both of these skin problems.

Caged Sandals: The Sexy Sandal for Summer 2010

Caged Sandals are the sexiest trend in footwear for Spring/Summer 2010. They are similar to the Gladiator style that is also the trend of the season, but cage sandals are more elegant. Cage heels will add interest to any outfit and work with causual ,dressy, and evening styles. Wear with a pair of jeans and a top or a short dress to show off the leg.

Cage heels  are visually impactful but have the tendency to make you appear shorter. Sky-high heels can counteract this shortening effect. If you have broader feet you should avoid thick horizontal straps and opt for diagonal straps in deeper tones than your own skin tone.  If your not a heel kind of girl, try a pair of flats. Fine strapped cage sandals that show more skin will flatter dainty feet.

Treatments for Broken Capillaries and Spider Veins

Broken Capallaries Around Nose and EyesSpider veins or broken capillaries are thin red veins most commonly found around the nose, eyes, and cheeks. Broken capillaries happen when capillary walls lose elasticity and become weak. The vein being less elastic can’t return to its previous size after dilation. The vein then collapses and makes the skin turn red.

Causes:  The most common cause of broken capillaries is genetics but other environmental factors such as sun exposure, extremes in weather, natural hormone changes, medications, and the misuse of exfoliants and peels also contribute to the cause of broken capillaries.

Treatments:  There are both medical and home remedy treatments for removing spider veins. Medical treatments can be costly but very effective while home remedies are less expensive  but will take a considerable amount of time to see results.

Medical Treatments:  An experienced dermatologist can tell you the personal cause of your broken capillaries and may prescribe facial creams or laser treatments that will permanently remove them.  Laser treatments start at around $200 per session and may take several sessions to completely remove the broken capillaries. The prescribed facial creams can also be costly and may require several refills before complete removal.

Drug Store or Over the Counter Creams:  Facial creams rich in Vitamin C and Vitamin K found in most local drugstores can be relatively inexpensive yet effective. Vitamin C improves skin tone an quality by helping it produce collagen and Vitamin K reduces redness because it helps with blood circulation and clotting. Before going to bed apply both creams, starting with the Vitamin C cream first. Let it absorb into the skin completely then apply the Vitamin K cream generously and leave on overnight.

Essential Oil Home Remedy:  Chamomile is an anti-inflammatory that is often used to treat acne, eczema, rashes, dermatitis, and other skin irritations. Mix 10 drops of chamomile essential oil with 4 ounces of your favorite moisturizer in a small container with a lid. Apply 2-3 times a day to the areas where the spider veins are.

These home remedies can be effective but results and length of time for results may vary from person to person. To minimize your frustration while waiting for broken capillaries to fade you could use a green based concealer and apply it to the areas where there are spider veins. Green based concealers neutralize redness and will work well to conceal broken capillaries. Also, be gentle in the treatment of your skin. Avoid harsh facial cleansers and exfoliants, wear protection in harsh weather, and limit your consumption of alcohol, caffeine, and spicy foods.

2010 Hair Styles

Image via Ladies Home Journal

Ok, I have looked like scary mom for long enough, its time for a new hair style. I have gotten so many bad hair cuts over the years that I am actually terrified to go under the scissors. Browsing the internet for the newest hair styles has given me many ideas but not the nerve to just do it. I have come across a couple of pictures that I am considering.

Image via Ladies Home Journal

I really like this meduim length layered style and I really like the hair color. According to Ladies Home Journal this style has volume on top and will lengthen a round face. The style has bangs which will help to hide a bit of my large forehead. My hair is already straight but it looks like I might need a little bit of help from a straight iron to get this exact look.

The second style that I am considering is really cute but I am just wondering if it is a bit to edgey for me.

I’m not a hair styling pro so I fear that this one might be just a bit of work for me.  I really like the bangs in this next picture. I just don’t know if I can find a hair salon that could really give me this look.

I think this one really frames the face nicely. I would have to talk to a stylist to see if this style is a lot of  work to accomplish.

This last picture looks about the easiest style to maintain. I like that the the ends are a blunt or choppy cut and it doesn’t have to much volume which is a hard task for my hair.

As I write this I am still trying to build up the nerve to just go out and do it. I know that I need a new hair style for 2010 but I don’t want to go from scary mom to she’s not my mom!!! I am determined that by the weekend I will just have to do it.

 Wish me luck!!!
